Knighton : The focus of fans' anger today
Members of the Carlisle & Cumbria United Independent Supporters' Trust (CCUIST) are hoping to use the penultimate home game of the season against Plymouth Argyle as the platform for a huge demonstration against owner Michael Knighton as well as a show of support for John Courtenay and sacked manager Roddy Collins.

The trust are calling on all supporters to gather outside the main stand from 1pm today and after making their protest outside the main entrance to proceed around the perimeter of the ground in a peaceful march. They also expect a large number of visiting Argyle fans to join them in a show of supporter solidarity.

CCUIST spokesman Al Woodcock said: "We expect Plymouth fans to take part in the march. The Plymouth fans understand the situation at Carlisle United."

They are stressing that they are not calling on fans to boycott the game but expect a fair percentage will after receiving a lot of feedback from the public during the week. The march around the ground will continue throughout the match, led by drummers and large banners.

Fans are fed up after 13 weeks of talks between Knighton and Courtenay culminating in Collins's sacking this week and a breakdown in negotiations leading to Courtenay beginning legal proceedings against Knighton yesterday. He is sueing him for defamation and loss of character following comments made by Knighton's solicitor Joseph Glass in a press conference on Tuesday.

Glass read out a prepared statement that claimed Courtenay had not been able to demonstrate that he had sufficient funds to conclude the deal.

Knighton has threatened to counter-sue for Courtenay's alleged breaching of the confidentiality clause that was agreed before talks began. In such an atmosphere a successful takeover may be impossible to achieve although both parties insist a way forward can still be reached.

Haddow could be back

Long-term injury casualty Alex Haddow could be a surprise contender for a starting place in this afternoon's match.

Haddow has been out since September with a serious knee injury but has already managed several reserve team games and is likely be on the bench at least for the game against Argyle.

Billy Barr is likely to be without Steve Soley, Stuart Whitehead and Richie Foran. Teenagers John Slaven and Stuart Bell are both likely to be named in the squad.
