History of the Carlisle v Huddersfield fixture

The Blues prepare to welcome the Terriers to Cumbria this weekend, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two teams. Of the 19 games played at Brunton Park, United have gained eight victories, and Huddersfield have only won three times.

The last match played between the two sides in Cumbria was just over three years ago, in early March 2004, as the Blues carved out a narrow 1-0 win in a Division Three (fourth tier) match. Peter Duffield scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute for United, in front of 4,782 spectators, but the three points were in vain as Carlisle would be relegated into the Nationwide Conference come the end of the 2003-04 campaign.

Games between the two clubs have always been relatively tight affairs, and with that in mind, United's biggest home win over the Terriers has five times been by the scoreline of two goals to nil. Perhaps the most memorable of those games being the Football League Trophy Northern Section semi-final second leg game at Brunton Park in the 1993-94 season when the Cumbrians just came up short as they attempted to overturn a 4-1 deficit from the first leg at Leeds Road.

The best of Town's three successes on the road at the home of United came in the 1969-70 campaign in the old Division Two. Huddersfield winning 2-0 that early October afternoon as 9,721 fans looked on, the Terriers doing the double over the Blues that season on the way to winning the title. Carlisle did gain a modicum of revenge in the League Cup second round that year though when they defeated Town 2-0 at home, United eventually making it all the way to the semi-final stage before succumbing to West Brom.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle are not in the best of form at home as of late, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six matches at Brunton Park. While the Cumbrians have only scored four times, a worringly large seven have been leaked at the other end, although over half those did come in a 4-1 hammering at home to Yeovil.

Huddersfield have an average recent record on the road at the moment, picking up two good wins, but losing three, from their last six games played away from the Galpharm Stadium. While the Terriers have hit eight goals, a huge 15 have hit the back of the wrong net.

Carlisle's 52 points from their 37 games played sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in 11th position, the Blues currently four points away from sixth-placed Blackpool, who have a game in hand on the Cumbrians, as they look to challenge for a play-off spot.

Huddersfield see themselves just below half way in the League One table, showing a record of 48 points from their 37 games played so far, the Terriers sitting nine points ahead of the relegation places and eight points off the play-off spots at the moment.
