With all the top four winning at the weekend there are only still two points separating those clubs, but United did manage to regain top spot in the table on goal difference after hammering Morecambe 6-1 at home thanks to goals from Pat Brough, Jack Lynch, Connor Thomson, Danny Hodgson, Brandon Gwinnutt and Jamie Clarey, the Blues leapfrogging Preston whose margin of victory was much tighter in defeating Bury 3-2 at home.
Wrexham in third place meanwhile remain the only unbeaten side in the division this season after the young Red Dragons won 3-0 at Walsall, while in fourth position Rochdale also picked up three points on the road with a 4-2 success at rock bottom Tranmere. Port Vale then make up the top five after they drew 1-1 at home to Macclesfield on Friday afternoon.
The last two games played on Saturday seeing another thrashing for Blackpool as they went down 6-1 at home to Burnley, while it only took one goal for Oldham to defeat Shrewsbury 1-0 at home. Next weekend then sees Carlisle have a very tough trip to Burnley on Saturday morning for an 11am kick-off at their Gawthorpe training facility, with United now facing a hard schedule of four away games from five before we go into the Christmas break.
