Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 02 May 2012 By Thetashkentterror

Despite Burnley picking up two wins in the last six days, it's their defeat to Carlisle last Wednesday afternoon, in which Josh Todd and Brad Potts netted for the Blues, that looks likely to have cost them the title as they now sit just two points above Preston, but with North End having Wigan at home left to play this Wednesday. The Clarets though having done all they could to take it to the last game and put some pressure on the Lilywhites by beating Wigan 4-1 on Saturday, and then winning 3-0 at Stockport this afternoon.

As for Carlisle, well their three points at Burnley coupled with a 4-1 win for Walsall at Blackpool on Saturday, means that United end the season in fourth place having, along with the Saddlers finished the campaign as joint top scorers in the division with a bumper 62 goals. The defeat for the Seasiders though against Walsall means the second highest club in the league senior-football wise, has finished bottom of the youth division on the back of 17 defeats from their 24 games played.

Scoring four goals and winning seemed to be the order of the day on Saturday meanwhile as Wrexham ended the season in style with a 4-0 victory at Bury, but the other two games played saw four goals shared between them as fifth-placed Tranmere beat Accrington 2-0 in a switched away game and Port Vale won 2-0 on the road at Oldham.

The last fixtures to be played in the division now being Preston's title deciding game on Wednesday, and then Wigan again on Saturday, this time at home to Morecambe, while the Alliance League Cup Final has also yet to be played. Northern Area winners Doncaster Rovers making the long trip down to Devon to take on Southern Area victors Exeter City at St James Park a week tomorrow in a 7pm kick-off.
