Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 21 February 2012 By Thetashkentterror

Back to action then this weekend, albeit not for Carlisle who saw their scheduled game at Bury waterlogged off, and it was Preston who took advantage of a blank date for Burnley to move to the top of the table on the back of a 2-0 win at home to Shrewsbury, while third-placed Walsall, who are still unbeaten after 13 games, could only draw 0-0 at Rochdale on Tuesday afternoon.

The next side down the table in action were Oldham, in sixth, but they shared the spoils 3-3 at home to lowly Morecambe, while one spot below the Latics Bury did manage to get their home match against Accrington Stanley played on Wednesday afternoon, the Shakers though held to a 1-1 draw. Things certainly getting much worse for Accrington at the weekend however when they were thrashed 6-1 at Rochdale.

The last two games played in the division on Saturday featuring all four sides who are now placed between tenth and thirteenth. Wrexham winning 1-0 at home on the road against Macclesfield in a game which was switched from Cheshire to North Wales, while Wigan shipped a hefty five in a definite away fixture, the Latics losing heavily 5-0 at Port Vale.

There was cup action as well at the weekend too with the finalists of both the north and south areas in the League Cup decided, with Doncaster at home to Hull City now after respective away wins 3-0 at Hartlepool and 4-2 at Notts County. In the south meanwhile it's Millwall at home to Exeter in the final, the Lions thumping Cheltenham 4-0 at home in the semis while City sneaked through 5-4 on penalties after drawing 1-1 over 90 minutes at Colchester.

This Saturday now coming hopefully sees Carlisle back in action after having five of their last six matches postponed due to the weather, the young Blues hoping to return to winning ways after two defeats on the bounce when they take on Wigan in an 11am kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club. The game of the day in the division meanwhile being seventh placed Bury away to a Walsall side who currently lie in third spot, that match having been switched from a Shakers home fixture.
