It was nearly all cup action at the weekend as the second round of the League Cup took place, with Carlisle themselves having been knocked out on penalties at Bradford City in the opening stage of the competitions, with the Bantams then subsequently losing 2-0 at home to one of United's divisional rivals, in Rochdale, on Saturday morning. Burnley and Stockport now being the only other teams flying the flag for the north-west region, with all three sides having been kept apart in the area quarter-final draw.
As far as league matters are concerned Carlisle moved up to the top of the table after an excellent 5-1 win at Blackpool, the Blues goals scored by Mark Beck 2, Brandon Gwinnutt, Lance McGlen and Brad Potts. United taking advantage of the fact that Preston's fixture at home to Shrewsbury was postponed, while the only other match played in the division saw Port Vale draw 2-2 at home to Macclesfield. Next week though there is a full round of fixtures scheduled, with the Cumbrians on the road again, this time at Bury in an 11am kick-off.
