Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 17 October 2011 By Thetashkentterror

It's keeping tight at the head of the division with the top three all getting victories at home. Last week Accrington shipped an injury time winner at home to Carlisle and this week they managed to do it at Preston, league leaders North End winning 2-1 with a goal in time added on. Despite a 3-1 victory against previously fourth placed Bury, including goals from Alex Salmon (2) and Josh Todd, United have now dropped down to third on goal difference as Walsall just keep on going, their 4-1 win over Stockport making it six victories from six games so far this season for the young Saddlers.

Tranmere meanwhile are now up to fourth in the table following an excellent 5-1 victory at Shrewsbury and Burnley are in fifth, the Clarets another side to get an injury time winner in their 2-1 switched home win over Rochdale. Further down the table and Maccclesfield picked up three points with a 3-2 success at Morecambe, while Blackpool won their second game in a row for the first time in a year thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory at Oldham. The final game played on Saturday being a bottom four battle as Wigan won 3-1 at home to Wrexham.

Next weekend sees just four games being played as Carlisle keep pushing on in an effort to get as many matches in before the hard winter months come, the young Blues at one point last season managing to play just two league games in over three and a half months thanks to the weather. This Saturday morning United, looking for their sixth win on the bounce, although a draw will see them go top of the table, face a Burnley side who are perenially very tough for Carlisle to beat, spectators advised to turn up at 10.45 for a scheduled 11am kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club.
