Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 12 April 2011 By Thetashkentterror

In the big top of the table clash Port Vale came out the winners as they defeated now third-placed Rochdale 2-0 at home to remain at the head of the division. Burnley meanwhile stay in second after picking up a narrow 1-0 victory at Tranmere and Preston North End are in fourth position as they got three points with a 3-2 success away to Macclesfield, the home side having won earlier in the week though 4-1 at home to a Stockport side who did themselves manage to bounce back at the weekend with a 2-0 home win over a free-falling Blackpool outfit.

Down at the bottom and Accrington Stanley lifted themselves off the foot of the table as they picked up one victory from two games this week, the Reds losing 2-0 at Shrewsbury on Saturday having on Tuesday surprisingly thrashed Wrexham 6-1 at home. The Red Dragons though another side on the win one and lose one trail as they then beat Morecambe 3-0 at home at the weekend, with the other game played on Saturday morning seeing Walsall move up to fifth with a 2-1 win in the West Midlands against Bury.

As for Carlisle, well sadly it couldn't be going much worse for Eric Kinder's side at the moment, their 4-0 thumping at Wigan on Friday afternoon with an inexperienced team out added to Accrington's win on Tuesday means that the young Blues now prop up the bottom of the table. It doesn't get much easier this coming Saturday either as United take on a Walsall side at home that defeated them 2-0 in the FA Youth Cup on Cumbrian soil in December, the league fixture this weekend being a 12noon kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club.
