Contract News


3rd September - Luke Carr, who played for the youth team numerous times last season as a trialist and as squad cover, signs a short-term deal to again provide cover for injuries.

10th September - Second year right-back James Bonner has the rest of his United contract cancelled by mutual consent to go to sixth form college.

10th September - First year goalkeeper Joe Clements has the rest of his United contract cancelled by mutual consent due to homesickness.

18th September - Gateshead College duo Michael Sweet, a centre-forward, and Craig Whinham, a goalkeeper, both link up with the club. Sweet as a trialist from Newton Aycliffe under-18s and Whinham on non-contract terms as back up to sole contracted goalkeeper Jon Ball, Whinham's stay being with a view to a potential permanent YTS deal.

1st October - Michael Sweet released from his trial spell.

2nd October - Chester-le-Street left-winger, formerly of both Middlesbrough and Sunderland's Academy set-up, Gavin Hoggarth joins the club for a trial spell.

12th January - Ex-Burnley and Everton left-back Dale Minor signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2011.

11th February - Midfielder Brandon Gwinnutt (ex-Derby schoolboys) signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2011.

11th February - Second years Jon Ball, Kieran Cahill and Paddy O'Brien all told that they will be released at the end of their two year YTS contracts at the end of the season.

12th February - Winger Tom Berwick (ex-Blackburn), central midfielder Jack Lynch (ex-Burnley) and goalkeeper Jordan Parker (ex-Everton) all sign two year YTS contracts to start in July 2011.

12th February - Midfielder Kyle Dempsey to be part of the youth team squad next year, on scoolboy forms.

17th February - Goalkeeper Joe Mulby joins the club on a trial basis.

23rd February - Striker Jamie Clarey joins the club on a trial basis.

7th March - Jamie Clarey signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2011.

7th March - Centre-half Dillon Morse, from Hartlepool, signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2011.

10th March - Second years Matt Osmond, Mark Sloan and Phil Towler all told that they will be released at the end of their two year YTS contracts at the end of the season.

11th March - 16-year old centre-half Will James joins Carlisle on a work experience deal from Blackburn to the end of this season, James is in his first year at Ewood Park and there is also an option to extend the work experience deal until the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

18th March - Second year YTS players Ben Mckenna and Steven Swinglehurst both sign one year professional contracts to June 2012.

21st March - Jon Ball (Gateshead), Paddy O'Brien (Clitheroe), Matt Osmond (Billingham Synthonia), Mark Sloan (Workington) and Phil Towler (Penrith) all sign work experience deals at those respective clubs in order to see out the rest of their Carlisle United YTS contracts.

8th April - Newcastle City Juniors midfielder Louis Barrow joins the club on a trial basis.

21st April - Eritrean-born former Newcastle United under-16s player Alex Berham, who is currently featuring for Walker Central's first team in the Northern Alliance Premier (same division as Carlisle City), joins the club on a non-contract basis. Berham having been on trial with Bradford City earlier this month, and then with Carlisle United last week along with Walker Central colleague Nial Harrison. Goalkeeper Harrison though seemingly having been unsuccessful in his United trial spell.

20th May - confirmation that Blackburn Rovers centre-half Will James will extend his work experience deal until the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
