With Rochdale out of action this week, Burnley took the chance to sneak into top spot on goal difference by four goals afer they won two games. The Clarets first defeating Accrington 1-0 on the road on Tuesday afternoon before they grabbed another one-goal victory on Saturday morning when they beat Shrewsbury 2-1 at home. Port Vale, in third, are only two points off the leaders as well now after they won 2-0 at early season pace-setters Blackpool, the Seasiders having collapsed like a pack of the cards in the second half of the campaign.
There were 2-0 other away wins at the weekend as well, as fourth-placed Oldham lost against Wigan and Macclesfield defeated Accrington, while Preston have been in reasonable form lately and they are now up to seventh in the table after beating Wrexham 4-1 home. The game of the week certainly came at Morecambe though as 13 goals flew into the net in the home side's remarkable 8-5 victory against Walsall, the scoreline only having been 3-2 at half-time.
Finally come Carlisle, and sadly it was another defeat for the lads this weekend as they went down 3-2 at home to Tranmere, with Mark Beck scoring both the United goals. In a 17 team division the young Blues are the odd one out this weekend as they have no game on Saturday, and with only six matches to come now until the end of the season Friday 25th March is the next date on the fixture list when Carlisle face Wrexham at home in a 1pm kick-off.
