Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 02 October 2010 By Thetashkentterror
Blackpool continue to go 100% with five wins out of five at the top of the table after they defeated Lancastrian neighbours Morecambe 3-1 at home. Rochdale meanwhile remain in second after winning 2-1 on their own turf against Accrington Stanley, and Oldham finished off a good weekend for the top three as they won 1-0 at Preston, North End, last season's title winners, and hot favourites again this year, now languishing at the foot of the table.

In fourth place are Port Vale and they drew 3-3 at Macclesfield, while Stockport come next in the table as the Hatters won 2-1 in North Wales against Wrexham. The top six in the division being completed by Burnley, the Clarets drawing 2-2 at home to Bury, while the final two games played at the weekend featured mid-table sides as Tranmere beat Walsall 4-1 at home and Wigan drew 1-1 at Shrewsbury.

In a division of 17 teams it was Carlisle's turn to have a week off and with results transpiring against them they have now dropped down to second bottom in the table. Next week things don't get any easier as they face Blackpool at Creighton Rugby Club in a rearranged league fixture that is actually a home game for the Seasiders that is being played in Cumbria due to problems with the Blackpool pitch.

The two sides having the date spare as the Seasiders had been drawn against Mansfield in round one of the northern section of the Youth Alliance Cup but the youth team of the Stags has had to be scrapped due to a lack of funds. United on the other hand were lucky enough to be the only club to receive a bye through to the second round, which is scheduled to be played at the end of October.
