Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 18 September 2010 By Thetashkentterror
With Blackpool out of action due to the ill-health of their manager Gary Parkinson, Port Vale took advantage to close the gap on the Seasiders at the top of the table to two points, the Valiants defeating Shrewsbury 1-0 at home. Rochdale are in third after they absolutely thrashed last season's title winners Preston 5-0 at home, North End now very surprisingly having lost three of their first four games.

Another side that was supposed to be challenging for honours was Burnley but they have now only won one match in four after this weekend they went down 4-3 at home to fourth placed Oldham. Lancastrian neighbours Bury then making up the top five as they tasted victory 3-1 at Morecambe, while another side from that region picking up three points was Wigan as the Latics defeated Wrexham 4-3 at home in another high scoring encounter.

The goals were raining in in mid-table too as Walsall drew 4-4 at home to Macclesfield in a Black Country thriller, and Stockport won 4-1 on Cheshire turf against Tranmere. With Carlisle's game against Blackpool postponed it means the young Blues are still looking for their first win of the season, their next chance to get it coming on Saturday when they face Oldham on the road.
