Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 07 April 2010 By Thetashkentterror
Top of the table Preston were out of action this week but Shrewsbury, in second, did them a big favour by losing 3-0 away to Port Vale. Stockport, who had been third before kick-off also being defeated, County going down 1-0 at home to Wigan. That result enabling Rochdale to jump up to the third after they won 3-1 at home in their local derby against Bury.

Tranmere played two games this week, winning one and losing the other, Rovers first getting three points in a 4-3 victory at Morecambe on Monday, only to lose out on Saturday when they went down 3-2 at home to Oldham. Morecambe another side playing two matches as the Shrimps bounced back from their Tranmere defeat to beat Carlisle 2-1 on Friday morning, United's goal being scored by Phil Towler.

Only one more game was scheduled to take place in the division but Macclesfield's home fixture against Burnley on Saturday was waterlogged off. Away from league action Queens Park Rangers easily defeated Peterborough 3-0 in the Southern Area Final of the League Cup on Tuesday evening, the Hoops now waiting to take on the winners of the Northern Area Final between Stockport and Macclesfield.

Next week, following the terrible winter we had, Bury and Morecambe are playing a game in hand during the week, then there is a full round of fixtures at the weekend, with Morecambe themselves the only side out of action as they were supposed to be playing now defunct Chester City. As for Carlisle, well we, following a grim run of seven defeats in our last eight games, travel to North Wales to take on Wrexham in a noon kick-off.
