Youth Team Get The Luck Of The Draw

Last updated : 07 July 2010 By Thetashkentterror
After going out at the opening stage last year 2-1 at home to eventual league title winner's Preston, Carlisle will definitely make it further this season as the draw was kind to them at the Football League this week. The sad demise of Chester City in March 2010 meaning that there are now an odd number of clubs in the northern section of the draw, with United the lucky recipients as the odd one out.

The absence of a game for Carlisle though means that the lads, who start their league campaign, like last year, at Preston on the 14th of August, will now go four weeks without a match in league or cup between away fixtures against Oldham on the 18th of September and Burnley on the 16th of October. The second round of the Youth Alliance Cup then scheduled to take place a fortnight later at the end of October.

As for the first round draw itself, Stockport, who won the northern section before losing 4-3 to southern winners QPR in the overall final, start the defence of their regional title with a home game against Hartlepool, while probable favourites Preston have a long trip to Lincoln to look forward to. The draw pitting together sides from both the North-West and North-East divisions of The Football League Youth Alliance.
