The injury situation shows no signs of abating either, with Carlisle boss Eric Kinder already struggling selection-wise a little with both Adam Bonner and Joe Clements having permanently left the squad in recent weeks. A treatment table containing Ben McKenna, Paddy O'Brien, Brad Potts and Josh Todd seeing United down to just 11 YTS contracted players this morning, with non-contract goalkeeper Craig Witham and trialist centre-forward Michael Sweet, both from Gateshead College, included in the Blues matchday squad for the first time.

Once again it was a tale of missed chances for the Cumbrians as in an end-to-end game it was Carlisle who just about had the better of the play over most of the match. It was Latics substitute Jack Laird who changed the course of the game when he entered the fray on 70 minutes though, the Oldham youngster heading home from an Andy Crompton corner just five minutes later.

Laird then making sure of all three points for the home side five minutes from time when, after approach play by Crompton and Matty A Carr, he shot into the United net via the inside of Jon Ball's far-post. So, Carlisle have to still to pick up a win after playing five games this season, with their next chance to do so being a tough ask when they face league leaders Blackpool on the road in two weeks time.
