It's Millwall Away In Round Three

If it's a Friday in October or November then you can be rest assured that it must be time for another round of the competition to be drawn, and it couldn't be much worse for Carlisle as a long trip to South London and the New Den potentially awaits in a third round tie that is supposed to be played by the 11th of December.

First though there is non-league opposition to get past, with it being Wrexham who, like potential future opponents Walsall, play in United's North-West Conference of the Youth Alliance League. The Red Dragons currently sitting 13th in the table with just one league win so far this season, the Welshmen having drawn four and lost three of their other seven games played to date.

In the FA Youth Cup meanwhile Wrexham have had to start off early as a non-league club and have won 2-0 at AFC Liverpool, 9-0 at home to Ashton Town and then 9-0 again, this time at home to Warrington Town, and then 2-1 in a tight game away to Hallam FC. Their next cup action coming when they take on Carlisle at Brunton Park in round one on Tuesday 16th November in a 7pm kick-off.

So, if the young Blues win that game they will face a Walsall side at home who, like Carlisle and Wrexham, are struggling a little in the league this season. The Saddlers sitting 9th in a 17 team table with two wins, three draws and three defeats from their seven matches contested so far. Walsall in the cup however getting through their opening stage of the competition fixture with a narrow 1-0 victory away to MK Dons.

Then we move on to, erm, potential, potential future opponents Millwall, who are currently fourth of 16 teams in the South-East Conference of the Youth Alliance League. The Lions having won four and lost one of their five league games played, while in a differently structured League Cup down south they won one, drew three and lost one of their five qualifying matches. Millwall then defeating Cheltenham 1-0 at home in round two, and they now face holders Queens Park Rangers at home in the third round.

Elsewhere in the third round draw of the FA Youth Cup there are still a few non-league clubs left, but with none of them facing each other in round two we could end up with a non-league free third round. As for the first round, Carlisle's is the last game to take place next week, and with the weather now turning for the worse it could be a struggle to cram games in if United progress in the competition.
