Carlisle City 1-2 United Youth

After spending a week away in Cambridgeshire at an Army training camp at the Waterbeach Barracks, during which time they lost a friendly 3-1 against a Royal Engineers under-21 side on Wednesday evening, Carlisle returned to Cumbria today to take on Carlisle City on the pitch in the middle of the Sheepmount Athletics track, the pre-season friendly being City's first match of the campaign while also being played in absolutely torrential rain throughout.

After losing 2-0 against Gretna and 3-1 on Wednesday United went behind once again after 37 minutes when Stuart Kilgour headed home for City. Two minutes after the break though and the Blues were level at 1-1 when Mark Beck equalised, with the United winner then coming as late as the 89th minute when Will James scored with a header that City debutant goalkeeper Kieron Hodgson should perhaps have done better with. So, hopefully that late victory will give the young Blues a bit of confidence ahead of their next pre-season game, that coming on Tuesday evening away to Annan in a 7.30pm kick-off.
