Burnley Youth 1-2 United Youth

Josh ToddAn excellent way to end the campaign then for the lads, with the second year YTS players among them likely to find out their fate very soon as far as professional contracts are concerned. It was a first year, in goalkeeper Jordan Parker, who was Carlisle's best player in the first-half though despite the Clarets taking the lead as early as the eighth minute when Luke Gallagher netted from close range after Steven Hewitt had done the approach work.

It was Parker who then kept United in the game during the rest of the opening period, with the Cumbrians going close at one point as home keeper Josh Cook pushed a towering Mark Beck header wide, as he made good stops from Gallagher and Hewitt, and then in particular an excellent save with his feet from Burnley's Irish striker Shay McCartan as the half-time whistle loomed. Carlisle came out strongly after the break though and they pulled level just before the hour-mark when some good work by Kyle Dempsey down the right saw him put in a low cross which Josh Todd (pictured) was able to hammer home.

The Blues then taking a lead which they would never relinquish when Brad Potts headed into the Clarets net from a 63rd minute corner, Carlisle then able to see the victory out in relatively comfortable fashion despite a late spell of Burnley pressure, featuring shots over the top from Cameron Howieson and Hewitt at their Gawthorpe training facility, while United missed a couple of chances on the break through Potts and Dempsey. So, that's it now for the lads as they look highly likely to finish in fourth place in the table despite being the top goalscorers in the league, a little bit of work on defending to do in pre-season then despite an excellent overall campaign.
