Accrington Stanley Youth 2-3 United Youth

The new faces continue to pour in at Brunton Park and it was a very youthful inexperienced side that was therefore getting used to playing with each other when Stanley took the lead after only 12 minutes on a heavy pitch at Shawbridge, Clitheroe FC, Marcus Carver smacking home an excellent strike from the edge of the penalty area following some good approach play by the Reds.

Both sides then exchanged unsuccessful shots on goal before Carlisle levelled with 35 minutes on the clock thanks to a close range Mark Beck strike in a bit of a goalmouth scramble, which eventually made the scoreline 1-1 at the interval. United then taking the lead five minutes into the second-half with a fantastic goal from Tom Berwick, the Blues midfielder thumping home a tremendous left-footed overhead-kick following a cross in from the left flank by Dave Symington.

Stanley came right back at the Cumbrians though with Joe Molby having to make quick saves in succession from an Anthony Field shot and a Nick Walker header. An on top Accrington then seeing Marcus Carver have a header deflected wide and Ben Whitcomb have a low drive held by Mulby. The home side finally did make it 2-2 on 78 minutes however when Adam Stockdale and Field worked the ball well for Carver to slot a low finish into the United net.

With four minutes to go though Carlisle got what would turn out to be the winning goal when Dan Jones did well to knock home a shot past Josh O'Connell in the Reds net. So, a good week for United with two away wins in a row, and after four games on the road on the trot the young Blues will be glad to be back at home on Saturday at 11.30am against Shrewsbury for their first league game on Cumbrian turf since the 13th of November.
