After drawing 1-1 against Gillford Park at the Sheepmount on Friday evening it was down to Cambridgeshire this week for a tough Army training camp at the Waterbeach Barracks, the home of 25 Engineer Regiment, near Cambridge. Carlisle breaking up the middle of five days of fitness, team bonding and Army exercises with their game tonight against their hosting soldiers.

With Dan Jones and Lance McGlen still out through injury the Blues had 15 players available, with first year goalkeeper Joe Clements taking his turn in goal. Both United goals came in the first-half when the home goalkeeper made a mess of trying to save a long range Phil Towler shot, then Mark Beck cut in from the left before finishing well into the Army net.

Carlisle's best chance of increasing their lead after the break came when left-back Kieran Cahill struck a shot against the post, but a 2-0 win on a dry, bobbly pitch against physical adult opposition will please Blues boss Eric Kinder. United now pencilled in to play Cambridgeshire FA County League side Waterbeach FC on Friday before returning to Cumbria.

United line-up :

Joe Clements, James Bonner (Adam Gill 20), Kieran Cahill, Brad Potts, Steven Swinglehurst, Josh Todd, David Symington, Paddy O'Brien, Phil Towler, Mark Sloan, Mark Beck.

Other substitutes :

Jon Ball (GK), Ben McKenna and Matt Osmond.
