With Burnley out of action Chester took the opportunity to move into second in the table and draw level on points with the Clarets as they won 2-1 away to Rochdale in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United FC. Chris Holroyd gave the visitors the lead on 24 minutes with Kevin Roberts doubling the City lead early in the second-half, Rory Prendergast then netting what only proved to be a consolation goal for the 'Dale on 75 minutes.

Preston join the log-jam at the top of the table after winning 3-1 at Deepdale against Bury. Regular second-string scorer Neil Mellor bagging a brace for North End as early as the 27th minute before James Dean responded with a 50th minute strike for the Shakers. Lewis Neal's 82nd minute effort ensured the final score was 3-1 though as the home side made sure of all three points.

Morecambe stay in fourth after fighting out a 2-2 draw against Blackpool at Christie Park. All of the goals came in the second-half with Phil Marsh opening the scoring for the visitors just after the hour-mark only for the Shrimps to equalise three minutes later through Jon Newby. The home side then took the lead in the 75th minute when Paul Lloyd netted but it was the Seasiders who equalised this time, Dale Warburton scoring ten minutes from time to ensure the game finished honours even.

Tranmere and Accrington Stanley couldn't find the scoresheet though as they played out a 0-0 draw at Prenton Park. Adnan Ahmed and Mike Jones came closest for the on-top home side, while Terry Gornell was ruled to have been offside in the build-up to a Mike Blundell disallowed goal for Rovers late in the match.

As we already know, United's scheduled match away to table-toppers Burnley, that was due to be played at Accrington's Fraser Eagle Stadium, was postponed on Wednesday afternoon due to a waterlooged pitch. The Blues second-strong should hopefully be in action next Wednesday though against Chester City in a 2pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
