Oliver Norwood
New United loan signing Oliver Norwood (ON) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton (PN) at Thursday afternoon's press conference for the local media, the Manchester United midfielder enjoying his first day at Brunton Park :

ON

I went into training on Tuesday morning and Warren Joyce came in and asked if I would like to come here and play on loan, so I said yes. I trained again yesterday and he said that I was going and to get my stuff. So, I travelled up this morning and it was my first training session today with the lads.

PN

James Chester is a Manchester United team-mate of yours, did you have the opportunity to speak to James about the club?

ON

Yeah, luckily they get a day off on Wednesday and as I was leaving Carrington he was coming in, so I managed to just catch up with him for half an hour. He told me that he was really enjoying it here, they are on a good roll and they play football the right way, so he said it was a good club to come and learn at.

The (Manchester) United way of playing everybody looks up to, (Manchester) United, Barcelona, Arsenal, they just get it and play. Whereas if you go to club where they just want to kick it then it is no use to us really. Because, we like to play football and I am glad that the gaffer here (Greg Abbott) likes to play football, because it is a lot better for the fans to watch as well.

PN

You have had your first day of training today with the team and the squad, what did you make of it?

ON

It was a very good session, very sharp, there are some good players out there, good on the ball and stuff, so yeah I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to get going now on Saturday.

PN

It is a very young squad here as well, will that help you settle in do you think?

ON

Yeah, because all the young lads just have a laugh and everything, I have seen the banter that goes on even just on my first day. The gaffer had me in the office this morning and he said that is like a babies team now compared to the rest of the league.

PN

How important is it for you at this stage of your career, relatively early stage of your career, but given where you are in terms of your position with Manchester United how important is it to get out and get some first-team football?

ON

It is vital because the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) always says that to play in his first-team you need to go out and play first-team games. So, hopefully I can get a good run of games here and show everybody what I can do.

PN

For the benefit of those who haven't seen you play yet, how would you describe your game?

ON

I like to get on the ball and pass it, try shots from distance and set-pieces. Hopefully I can get a couple of set-pieces, I practice them enough and I scored a couple for the Northern Ireland under-21s. It is just practice everyday, so then when the chance does come on the pitch you are ready to take it.

That is the way forward for me hopefully, get some games here and then hopefully push on. We have had a good run of games unbeaten and hopefully we can carry it on and keep moving up the league. The coaching staff here are brilliant, the gaffer's (Greg Abbott's) way of going forward and playing football is really exciting. So, hopefully I can get a good run of games here and show everybody what I can do.
