Danny Carlton
New United signing Danny Carlton spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday evening as he gave his opinion on the 2-1 pre-season friendly win away to his old club Morecambe tonight, Carlton commenting :

" It was very welcoming when I came down and a good reception. When I scored both sets of fans were cheering which you don't normally get so it was a good reception from the Morecambe fans. It's good to get 90 minutes under your belt, I was in this morning and to get 90 minutes, well it's in the bank for the next up and coming weeks and leading towards the Walsall game.

" You couldn't have scripted it any better for me tonight. It's been a let tougher in pre-season, you expect that when you move up two levels or one level as it is now. It's been very tough, intense and it's been hard work but all the lads have done the best they can and it's starting to show in games now. I had a few words with the Morecambe lads but it's expected you know, Danny why did you do this or that, that's part of the banter with the lads though.

" We (Carlton and Danny Graham) have a chat before games but I think it's just instinct from both strikers. If one makes one run then you are going to have to sit in the hole and try to help out your fellow team-mates, it's just instincts from strikers. Kevin Gall has been playing up there as well so there are three of us really fighting for two places, whether or not Kevin plays on the right wing or upfront that's up to the gaffer (Neil McDonald). I thought Danny and I played well together so I'm looking forward to a few more games together.

" You want competition for places, it's about squads now, you look at Chelsea and when they have got an injury they have got a world-class player to come in. We're not that standard but we've got great players if any injuries do happen or someone is having a bad time. We've got great players to bring in. You couldn't ask for a better game for pre-season in Newcastle at home, no doubt there will be a few thousand up at Carlisle's ground so I'm looking forward to it. "
