Kelly: Red card is being challenged by United
United are planning to appeal against Darren Kelly's red card at home to Lincoln City in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Kelly blocked a shot by Peter Gain, apparently with his arm but the club have studied video footage and believe the central defender only made contact with his chest and that the sending off decision was therefore incorrect.

The incident threatened to scupper the Cumbrians' cup campaign at the first hurdle but United fought back tenaciously to win the game 2-1 despite playing with a man short for the last 67 minutes. It was Carlisle's fourth consecutive win in all competitions, their best winning run for almost six years.

Chairman John Courtenay believes United have a cast-iron case for getting Kelly's impending suspension lifted.

"We are sending the video to the referee. He didn't handle the ball. His hand came round after the ball had gone. We have looked at the video and at first it looked like he had handled and I can understand why the linesman thought he had. But if you look carefully you can see the ball didn't touch his hand," he said.

If referee Graham Salisbury reverses his decision, Kelly will be available for the trip to York City on November 30.

Vote for Derek

United fans are being urged to vote for three memorable commentary clips which feature Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey.

Radio 5 Live is running a competition on its website over the next few weeks which allows supporters to vote for their favourite clip of local radio commentary.

Derek features in three clips, from the Plymouth Argyle game in 1999 when Jimmy Glass memorably scored to keep Carlisle in the league, from the game at Luton last season when Lacey farcically believed United had gone it at half-time 1-0 up when in fact the goal had been disallowed and from a game against Doncaster Rovers when he became entangled in telephone wire and co-commentator Nick Barnes was reduced to hysterics as he attempted to describe his predicament.

You can listen to the clips and register your vote on the 5Live website by clicking here.
