Collins: Wielding the axe
United manager Roddy Collins says players will start leaving Brunton Park next week as a new clearout begins in the wake of the six-game losing streak that has seen the Cumbrians slide to 22nd position in Division 3 and crash out of the Worthington Cup.

At least one unnamed player is set to leave United next week for a substantial transfer fee following a disciplinary matter internal to the club. And Collins has issued a warning to any other players who don't come up to his exacting standards by threatening to get rid of anyone who he doesn't believe is up to the task of representing their club.

"There will be players leaving the club and there will be players coming in. I have already told two of them. Over the past couple of weeks certain players have disappointed me. They have let me down, they have let the club down and the supporters down. That is something I will not tolerate. It's been a bad two weeks for the club, but a good two weeks for me as I have learnt so much," he said.

The shock news comes 24 hours before a crucial match against fellow-strugglers Boston United at Brunton Park. Defeat could send Carlisle back to the bottom of the league. Boston won a basement battle against Swansea City on Wednesday night and later parted company with stand-in manager Neil Thompson. He had placed former United target Daryl Clare on the transfer list prior to his departure and now that he has gone, Clare could come back into the picture. He was top scorer as Boston won the Conference last season. The four-point penalty imposed on the Lincolnshire side for transfer irregularities means they are now one place and one point below United with Swansea bottom on goal difference. The Swans sacked Nick Cusack after the defeat at Boston and replaced him with Brian Flynn yesterday.

Speculation has been linking striker Richie Foran with First Division Coventry City. Collins was reported as saying any money received for Foran would be ploughed into replacements. He told reporters this week that he was lining up two loan signings with "Premiership experience".

The big shake-up comes as the club prepares to move out of Administration. A CVA (Company Voluntary Arrangement) was voted through by creditors at the start of August and requires United to borrow £2 million from Sterling Associates, a firm owned by partners in the administrator's employer BKR Haines Watts. John Courtenay will be able to take firm control once the club comes out of administration. Officials of BKR Haines Watts will continue to supervise the repayment of outstanding debts over the remainder of the season.

Supporters' Club to relaunch with Fans' Forum

The Official Supporters' Club will be relaunched at 7pm on Tuesday October 1 in the Sunset Suite at Brunton Park at a special fans' forum attended by John Courtenay, Roddy Collins and several first-team players.

The club is being brought back to life by a committee of supporters and will revert to its independent status with fund-raising going towards specific projects at Brunton Park. John Courtenay has given his full support to the club who hope to have a members-only bar inside Brunton Park as well as a revamped programme of away travel that will feature a subsidy for members.
