Murray: Signed from Barrow
United have today completed the signing of Cumbrian striker Glenn Murray from Barrow.

The 20-year-old forward has been training with the Blues for most of this season and boss Paul Simpson has been looking at him over recent weeks with an eye to making an offer for him.

With the Cumbrians short of consistent goalscoring power in recent matches, and with striker Kevin Henderson out for the Christmas and New Year games, Simpson has made his move to try and get United more forward options.

Murray has grabbed nine goals in 9 games for Barrow in the Conference North but was keen to prove himself at full-time professional level and was known to be itching at the chance of a move. He played and scored for Carlisle's reserves in their 3-2 midweek defeat at Macclesfield Town.

Meanwhile, Simpson is also known to be holding talks with two further forwards and is hoping to bring in a defender on a loan deal. One of the two strikers is believed to play for Torquay United. Simpson admitted none of these players would be signing before the start of next week.

"We have had an offer accepted for a forward. I have left a message to speak to the player and it's looking like being next week before anything happens. I'm working towards bringing players in. I've asked about bringing in another player on loan, but that won't be before the weekend either," he said.

Trust to receive £600,000 cheque on pitch

The United Trust have announced they are to receive a cheque for £600,000 from local tycoon Brooks Mileson on the pitch at the home game with Morecambe to be played on Sunday January 2 and televised live by Sky Sports.

The offer has been the subject of a big dispute recently, with United owner Fred Story demanding that any money introduced by Mileson is pumped into the club immediately. He has called for a meeting of the United Trust's boad and the club's directors to thrash out a way forward.

The £600,000 when added to £200,000 already raised by fans' donations will take the Trust up to the £800,000 needed to acquire a 40% shareholding in the club.

Story said he only wanted the Trust to have a 25.1% share after withdrawing his own offer of a 25.1% stake. He described the existing legal agreement with the Trust, which allows them to own up to 49% of the shares, as "fundamentally flawed".

The Trust have said they are planning to sit down with Mr Story and his lawyers to work out a resolution to the timing of the money handover.
