Forward Shaun Miller heads to Brunton Park

Carlisle United have today signed striker Shaun Miller on a two-year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2018.

Miller, 28, started his career as a trainee with Crewe Alexandra and signed professional terms with the Railwaymen in 2006.

He went on to make over 175 appearances at Gresty Road, bagging 43 goals along the way, and enjoyed a loan spell with Witton Albion into the bargain as he forged his path into the game.

He was snapped up by Sheffield United in the summer of 2012 and he went on to play 35 games and score nine goals for the Blades in his two-year stay. A two-month loan stay with Shrewsbury, which brought three goals in eight outings, caught the eye of Coventry City and he joined them on a free transfer in the summer of 2014.

He scored twice in his 13 appearances for the Sky Blues and went out on loan to Crawley and York before he signed for Morecambe on a one-year deal ahead of the last campaign. 16 goals in 43 appearances brought him to the attention of the United coaching staff and he becomes the club’s sixth summer capture following a successful and swift round of discussions.

Head of recruitment Lee Dykes said: “Shaun is a clever player who can lead the attack for the team, either with support or on his own.

"He has excellent movement off the ball and he knows where to be when he gets into attacking areas. We think Shaun will settle well and he joins a squad of very good players.

"His connection with Jamie [Devitt] will help both of them with the settling-in process and he is another player who played extremely well against us at Brunton Park last season. He scored twice on that day but it was his performances throughout the season which really caught our eye.

"This is a player who we think will add something exciting to the level of ability within the group."

This moves remains subject to the completion of all paperwork.
