Carlisle United have today signed midfielder George Glendon on a one-year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2019.

Manchester-born Glendon, 23, started his career with Premier League giants Manchester City where he worked his way through all of the age groups to become captain of their Elite Development Squad.

Having represented England at under-16 and under-17 level, he joined Fleetwood Town initially on loan in August 2016, and went on to make over 70 appearances for the Highbury-based outfit.

His first start for the Cod Army came right here at Brunton Park in a Checkatrade Trophy group game which United won by 4-2, with goals from McKee, Wyke, Grainger and Salkeld on the night.

Manager John Sheridan said: “George is a good little player. He had an excellent season the year before last at Fleetwood in what was a very good and confident side.

“It was more difficult for him last season, because they had some sticky patches, but I know what he’s about and I know what he can bring to the squad. He was captain with the Manchester City youth team so he has an excellent background.

“He’s a good age for us and he’s someone I think I can get another 10 or 15% out of, to help to bring him on even further. The drive, desire and enthusiasm are there and I’m expecting big things from him.”

On what we can expect to see on the pitch, he said: “He’s a mobile midfielder who takes care of the ball and gets things moving. He’s calm and patient in possession and he’ll make sure we don’t give it away easily.

“His qualities are different to one or two of the others we have here so he’s going to complement what’s already in the building nicely.”

This transfer remains subject to the clearance of all relevant paperwork.
