Joe McKee leaves Brunton Park by mutual consent

Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that midfielder Joe McKee has tonight left the club by mutual consent.

McKee, 24, joined Carlisle on a one-year deal during the January transfer window and played eight games, scoring one goal, for the Blues.

Manager Keith Curle said: "He's a player we brought in who we felt had huge potential, but he's been a victim of the success the team has enjoyed so far this season.

"He has an excellent attitude and I fully admit that he didn't get the opportunity that his application warranted but, again, that was down to the fact that we have players playing well in his position.

"He was particularly unfortunate when he picked up an injury at the time when he would have been used, but he's been a credit to himself with his professionalism and conduct.

"It goes without saying that we wish Joe the very best as he moves on to his next challenge."

Glasgow-born McKee started life in football as a youngster with Dundee United and joined Livingston as a 13-year-old in 2005. He progressed to sign a full-time contract at Almondvale before moving to join Owen Coyle at Burnley in 2009.

He featured regularly in the Premier Reserve League for the Clarets and signed his first professional deal with the club in 2011.

He spent four months on loan at St Mirren between August and December of that year and joined Bolton Wanderers on a one-year deal when his contract at Turf Moor drew to a close.

A successful move to Scottish Championship outfit Greenock Morton followed and he scored eight goals in over 75 appearances in his three seasons at Cappielow Park, which included a promotion winning season into the Scottish Championship in 2014/15.
