Millwall defender joins United on loan

Versatile player joins until January

Carlisle United have today signed Millwall defender James Brown on a window-to-window loan deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until January 2018.

Dover-born Brown, 19, signed for the Lions as a schoolboy and earned his first professional contract at the New Den in the spring of 2016.

He made his debut for his parent club in October 2016 in a 2-1 EFL Trophy victory over Gillingham.

Manager Keith Curle said: “James is someone we’ve known about for a while and he’s another young player who we feel will add to the group.

“He is very highly thought of and he’s at a point where he needs to develop a profile within the game.

“He can play on the left or right at the back and he’s a player who likes to defend. His manager wants him to be tested in a competitive first team environment and this is an opportunity for him to come here and show people that he’s ready to take another step.

“We’ve had him with us this week, we’ve liked what we’ve seen and he’s already fitted in well. He’s adjusted to the tempo we train at and the group have accepted him into the fold, which is extremely important.

“He adds more options and I’m sure he’ll be pushing to get the pitch time he needs so that he can really start to kick on.”

This loan deal remains subject to the clearance of all relevant paperwork.

Brown will wear squad number 17.
