Lennon: Pulled out after death threats
United new boy and Northern Ireland international contender Darren Kelly has spoken out against loyalist terrorists who placed a death threat on Neil Lennon, the Celtic player, before last night's international with Cyprus which he was forced to pull out of. Lennon, who is Catholic, was booed by a small section of the crowd during a previous international fixture at Windsor Park.

The IRA announced a ceasefire in the province five years ago and the historic Good Friday agreement was reached in 1998 but there are still problems with sectarianism in Belfast and other parts of Ulster. The IRA and loyalist terrorist organisations still carry out routine 'punishments' on people suspected of breaking the law and causing mischief.

Kelly, who sealed his £100,000 move to Carlisle yesterday, said: "It is a joke. Neil Lennon is a personal friend of mine and I am going to give him a ring to see how he is. The whole thing is rubbish. Neil Lennon wants to play for his country, he is the captain of his country and what gives people the right to do this?"

Naisbitt move on ice?

According to reports, Barnet's reserve goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt has joined the Cumbrians on a month's loan. However United have yet to confirm the news. Naisbitt had a trial spell at Carlisle a year ago. He is currently No.2 at Underhill to Lee Harrison.

Roddy Collins has already signed ex-Newcastle youngster Jonathan Brain to play in goal as understudy to Peter Keen. However Naisbitt is known to have impressed the former Bohs boss.

Gate raised to over 11,000

United's financial director Andrea Whittaker has admitted the true gate for the Hartlepool match was 11,041 and not 10,684 as originally reported. The gate later went up 10,743 but now Whittaker has come clean on the true total.

Fans queuing to get into the East Stand were locked out when gates were shut just before 3pm. The East Stand was not full though with hundreds of empty seats in the home section.

It was United's largest attendance since the Arsenal Cup-tie of January 2001 and their biggest for a league fixture since May 1995.

CCUIST: New initiative
CCUIST have been asked by new owner John Courtenay to help relaunch the official supporters' club. Expression of interest forms went inside all programmes on the opening day of the season and will be appearing again on Saturday when United play Bristol Rovers.

The move is part of a joint initiative by CCUIST and the club to help rekindle community involvement at Brunton Park. The club will also recommend to all its supporters that they join CCUIST, which now has well over 1,000 members and a share fund approaching £100,000. The Trust have an outline agreement with Courtenay to buy shares and gain a representative on the Board of Directors. Talks are expected to begin this week between the two parties.

If you want to join the relaunched CUFC Official Supporters' Club, please send your name, address and telephone details to Kate Rowley at the following address: rowley@rowley19.freeserve.co.uk
