Injuries force Simmo's hand

Foran: Could return at the Vetch tomorrow
Paul Simpson will once again have to juggle his pack as United visit the Vetch Field to take on Swansea tomorrow.

With the Cumbrians now eight points adrift of safety with seven games remaining, Simpson knows his team badly need three points tomorrow to undo the damage caused by last week's controversial home loss to Southend United.

The Carlisle boss has brought bad boy Richie Foran back into the squad, which is missing goalkeeper Matty Glennon through suspension, alongside injury casualties Paul Raven, Tom Cowan, Kevin Henderson, Chris Billy and Will McDonagh. The last three of those have been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Simpson will be hoping to return to action himself after a four-week lay off. He is in contention for a midfield berth alongside Mark Boyd and Brendan McGill. Foran could be a contender too, but the smart money is on the 23-year-old forward getting a place on the bench. Youngster Michael Jack, who has barely featured since the start of last season may be in the running for a rare start too.

Peter Keen dons the gloves for the first time since the home game with Scunthorpe in October. Glennon is sure to return for the home game with Kidderminster next Saturday but Simpson is confident Keen can do a job for the Cumbrians tomorrow.

He could be up against United's nemesis from the first clash of the season in September with the news that Swans' top scorer Lee Trundle could return after tweaking a hamstring. Trundle has earned rave reviews for his performances this season but they have been tarnished by a reputation for diving and earning free kicks and penalties. Andy Robinson and Brad Maylett are doubts for the home side, whilst Kevin Nugent, Izzy Iriekpen and Leon Hylton are all definitely out.

Swansea's stand-in boss Alan Curtis admitted this week that the Welshman are out of the running for a play-off spot. Despite topping the table briefly when they visited Brunton Park last autumn, they have slid to 10th spot in the table and are now 8 points outside of the final play-off berth.

CCUIST members to vote on share issue as Steel quits

Members of the supporters' trust CCUIST are to vote on a proposal to relinquish 20% of the shares in the club's parent company, CUFC Holdings Ltd. A special general meeting has been called for Sunday April 18 in Foxy's Restaurant to vote on the proposal, which has the backing of the CCUIST Board.

Under the terms of the proposal, CCUIST would give up the share option and attached voting rights to allow club owner John Courtenay to raise up to £400,000. Several large investors, including locally-based businessman Brooks Mileson have already indicated their willingness to pump in up to £20,000. The shares will cost £200 each.

The issue led this week to the resignation from the board of Carlisle United of Alan Steel, who served as the CCUIST representative. Steel also stood down as CCUIST chairman, although he remains on the board of the fans' organisation.
