Gray Saturday for United

United skipper Kevin Gray returned to action in the Cumbrians 1-0 win reserve team win at Shrewsbury on Wednesday afternoon. The ex-Huddersfield centre-half has been sidelined with a knee injury for nearly three months and his comeback is nothing but good news for under-pressure Blues boss Paul Simpson whose team have now gone eight Conference matches without a win.

33 year-old Gray played for sixty minutes with no reaction to his injury before being substituted for young midfielder Daniel Dillon and looks set to replace the suspended Simon Grand in United’s play-off six pointer at Stevenage on Saturday.

The Cumbrians have slipped down to ninth in the table following their poor run of form although they have games in hand on the some of the teams above of them as they look to challenge for a play-off spot.

After being an unused substitute in United’s last two first-team matches Simon Hackney looks set to miss out after going off injured with 15 minutes of the reserve clash left, Craig Farrell will no doubt take his place after he played the full 90 minutes following a groin injury.

Kevin Henderson scored the winner for the Blues after 85 minutes and with Matty Glennon in goal for the whole of the game it looks even more likely that Kieran Westwood will get an extended run in the first team.

Team : Glennon, Graham (Earl 75), Shelley, Andrews, Gray (Dillon 60), Arnison, McGill, Farrell, Henderson, Murray, Hackney (Gardiner 75).

Subs not used: Bradley, Ferris.
