Foran: Ban threatens place in LDV final
United striker Richie Foran will have to sit out the LDV Vans Trophy Final at Cardiff on April 6 if he collects another yellow card in today's crucial home clash with Cambridge United.

Having already served three suspensions this season, the Irish striker is walking a tightrope in this afternoon's match and knows any transgression will cost him his place in the Millennium Stadium glamour clash with Bristol City.

Foran admitted this week that the potential ban was on his mind but that it didn't affect him once the game kicked off.

"Off the field I am thinking about it a lot, but on the field I don't let it affect me," he said. "I have gone through the last five games without picking up a yellow, so I am sure I can do one more. The main thing is not just avoiding a booking on Saturday, but going through the remaining ten games this season without getting another one. I don't want to miss two of our league games."

The Cumbrians will once again be missing defender Darren Kelly who serves the second game of his two-match suspension. However fellow defender Peter Murphy could be back in contention after injury forced him out of the midweek home win over Macclesfield. If Murphy is available, manager Roddy Collins will have to decide whether to bring him back into the side in place of Tuesday night's goalscoring hero Mark Birch. Birch slotted into a central defensive role against Macclesfield and grabbed the only goal of the night after 8 minutes.

Birch could move back to his favoured right-back position in place of transfer-listed Brian Shelley.

The Cumbrians occupy 19th place in the table after collecting two wins from their last two games. They have moved up to 40 points, some 3 points clear of cellar-dwellers Exeter City and Swansea. Six of their remaining nine games are against teams contending for the play-offs or automatic promotion. Cambridge though have dropped out of play-off contention in recent weeks and have the worst record of any club in Division 3 since Christmas. They currently sit in 12th position on 49 points, 8 points behind the final play-off slot.

However they gained a morale-boosting point in a 1-1 midweek draw at Oxford United.
