Shrewsbury Town defender joins United on loan

Carlisle United have today signed Shrewsbury Town defender Mark Ellis on a one-month loan deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until 28 November 2015.

Ellis, 27, started his career with a three-month loan deal at Torquay, from parent club Bolton, which turned into a permanent move in the summer of 2008.

Over 100 appearances and four years followed with the Gulls, which included a short loan spell with Forest Green Rovers in 2009.

He made the move to Crewe in 2012 and became a regular with the Alex through his two-year stay. He then signed for the Shrews in May 2014 where he helped them back to promotion to League One at the first attempt.

Manager Keith Curle said: “Mark has a lot of games and experience under his belt and he’ll be a good addition to the group.

“He’s a player I know about and he’ll provide more competition for places. I’m sure he’ll come here determined to show everyone what he can do.”

Ellis will wear squad number 27 and has been given clearance to play for United in our FA Cup fixtures.
