United have started their pre-season tour of Ireland with a 7-1 victory and a goalless draw.

The Cumbrians defeated Sunday Leaguers Glebe North 7-1 on Tuesday with striker Craig Farrell scoring a hat-trick. He even had time to miss a penalty kick in the impressive opening rout. Winger Brendan McGill weighed in with two goals and other strikes came courtesy of Craig Russell and Ryan Baldacchino.

Roddy Collins used nearly all his first-team squad, making 10 substitutions at half-time. Only defender Darren Kelly played the whole game. Carlisle went in at the break two goals up thanks to McGill's brace. They ran riot in the second period with last season's top scorer Farrell netting his hat-trick. The home team bagged a late consolation goal.

First half line-up: Glennon, Birch, Raven, Kelly, Maddison, McDonagh, P.Byrne, Billy, McGill, Wake, Livingstone

Second half line-up: Keen, Shelley, Kelly (Dillon), Andrews, Murphy, Baldacchino, Summerbell, Rundle, Foran, Russell, Farrell

On Wednesday United were held to a 0-0 draw by Belgrove.

The match was in stark contrast to the previous day's goal feast with both sides showing an appetite for the passing game and United had the better chances, although McGill was disappointed not to extend his run to 3 goals in 2 games when his late shot was blocked.

Jack and Slaven on way out

Out of favour youngsters Michael Jack and John Slaven have been left out of the tour of Ireland and are set to leave Brunton Park.

Jack has joined Queen of the South for pre-season training while 17-year-old Slaven, who is the youngest player ever to wear the blue shirt of United, is set to link up with Scottish Second Division outfit Cowdenbeath.

Jack started last season in the first team but lost his place early on and rarely featured in the closing stages of the campaign. Slaven made his record-breaking debut in the 2001-02 season but failed to make a single start last term.
