Meppen-Walter missing for Cumbrians

Carlisle's teenage defender Courtney Meppen-Walter will miss the home game against Preston due to suspension.

The 19-year-old was shown a straight red card for pulling back Walsall's Troy Hewitt in Saturday's 2-0 defeat in his third game for the club and will now sit out a three-game ban.

The Cumbrians will also be without concussed Blackburn loanee Josh Morris, forced off on Saturday after taking a bang on the head, while fellow defenders Pascal Chimbonda and Danny Livesey (both calf), plus midfielder Dave Symington (thigh) are still out.

Goalkeeper Mark Gillespie (knee) is recovering from surgery and midfielder Paul Thirlwell is playing with the aid of injections as he is struggling with an Achilles problem.

Attacking duo Joe Garner and Kevin Davies will both miss out for Preston through suspension.

North End's top scorer Garner was only just back from a three-game suspension when he picked up a fifth caution of the season in Saturday's 3-0 loss to Brentford, a result which ended the Lilywhites' 11-game unbeaten streak.

Veteran forward Davies also has a quintet of yellow cards so will sit out the one game but boss Simon Grayson does have on-loan striker Paul Gallagher back from a three-match suspension of his own.

He will be expected to slot straight in while the versatile Jack King (foot) could also play a part after returning to the bench on Saturday.
