United defender Shaun Brisley has today left the Cumbrians by mutual consent and joined Notts County on a two-year deal.

Brisley, 27, joined the Blues on a two-year deal in the summer of 2016 and scored two goals in his 34 appearances for the club.

Manager Keith Curle said: “I'd like to thank Shaun for his efforts because he's been a pleasure to work with.

"He bought into what we're trying to do from the very first moment he arrived and he's worked hard whenever he's been asked to step up.

"One of the things he identified when we spoke was that he wanted more game time this season, and that was something I couldn't guarantee for him here.

"Part and parcel of the job I have to do at this club is to be creative with the squad and to maximise the potential I have. Having spoken to Shaun at length I think this is a move which works well for him and for the club.

"He's done some good work with us through pre-season and, as I say, we wish him well as he takes his next step."

Brisley came through the ranks at his home town club Macclesfield and went on to make over 125 appearances in his five years on the professional books with the Silkmen.

A half-season loan spell with Peterborough at the beginning of 2012 preceded a permanent move to London Road later that year, and he enjoyed loan spells with Scunthorpe, Northampton and Leyton Orient prior to being released by the Posh at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Everyone at the club wishes Shaun all the very best as he moves on to his new club.
