Courtenay: Set to take full control
United are set to come out of formal administration next Tuesday, allowing owner John Courtenay a free rein at last in running the club.

Administrator David Elliott will move into a supervisory role once the court hearing agrees to lift the administration order. Courtenay has already paid £750,000 towards clearance of existing debts and will contribute another £750,000. In addition, he hopes to raise a further £500,000 by selling land for hotel development at the top end of Warwick Road near the motorway interchange.

Courtenay denied any pressure was being applied to sell players, despite comments made by Roddy Collins at a fans' forum last night that both Stuart Whitehead and Lee Andrews could soon be on their way.

"If we sold players it would be a purely management decision. I have not said we have to sell players and if we do Roddy has been told he can use the money to replace them with what he thinks are better players. I have never felt the way to take a football club forward was to sell your best players."

Mags provide test for trialists

Several trialists will feature tonight as the Cumbrians take on Newcastle United in a friendly at Brunton Park.

Tottenham striker John Sutton, the brother of Celtic's Chris, and Lenny Johnrose, who has notched up over 400 first team appearances, most recently at Burnley are both expected to start the match. Also involved will be Leeds United youngster Craig Farrell. Injured winger Ryan Baldacchino could return to action following a five-week lay off.

Striker Richie Foran will be out for up to six weeks following a fracture to his cheekbone sustained at Bournemouth on Saturday. Trevor Molloy has returned to Ireland, leaving United short of forward firepower. Brian Wake, scorer of four goals so far this season, has put off a knee operation to ease Roddy Collins's worries.
