History of the Carlisle United v Swindon Town fixture

Carlisle play host to Swindon tomorrow afternoon holding the advantage on previous meetings between the two sides. Of the 18 games played at Brunton Park the Cumbrians have won eight and drawn seven, while Town have been victorious three times.

One of those away wins for Swindon did come last season in League One though in late November. Charlie Austin, as early as the third minute of the match, scoring one of many goals for himself over the season as the Robins took all three points in front of 4,339 spectators.

United's biggest win at home to the Robins came in the old Division Two promotion campaign of 1973-74 when Carlisle thumped Town 5-1 at Brunton Park. Frank Clarke hammered home four goals, one from the penalty spot, while Joe Laidlaw scored the other as 6,544 fans looked on, Dave Syrett netting a consolation goal for the visitors.

Swindon have only won two other times at Brunton Park in 18 attempts, both of them coming in promotion campaigns for the Wiltshire outfit. The most recent was in 1995-96 in the third tier when they won 1-0 thanks to Ed Murray, while the victory for the Robins before that came in the old Third Division in 1986-87. United crashing to a 3-0 defeat, amazingly in front of only 2,082 spectators, the Town goals coming from Tim Parkin, Bryan Wade and a Mark Jones penalty.
