History of the Carlisle United v Swindon Town fixture

Carlisle play host to Swindon tomorrow afternoon holding the advantage on previous meetings between the two sides. Of the 16 games played at Brunton Park the Cumbrians have won eight times while Town have been victorious twice.

Last season in League One the Blues defeated Swindon 3-0 at home on a Tuesday night in early December 2007 in front of 5,477 spectators. Joe Anyinsah putting United 2-0 up with a brace of goals on 27 and 54 minutes, before Town's Ben Tozer was sent off for a professional foul on Joe Garner just after the hour-mark, Garner then completing the Carlisle scoring as he netted in the 75th minute.

United's biggest win at home to the Robins came in the old Division Two promotion campaign of 1973-74 when Carlisle thumped Town 5-1 at Brunton Park. Frank Clarke hammered home four goals, one from the penalty spot, while Joe Laidlaw scored the other as 6,544 fans looked on, Dave Syrett netting a consolation goal for the visitors.

As already mentioned Swindon have only won twice at Brunton Park in fifteen attempts, those being the previous two games to last season between the sides in Cumbria, and both of them coming in promotion campaigns for the Wiltshire outfit. The most recent has already been detailed above while the victory for the Robins before that came in the old Third Division in 1986-87. United crashing to a 3-0 defeat, amazingly in front of only 2,082 spectators, the Town goals coming from Tim Parkin, Bryan Wade and a Mark Jones penalty.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle will be hoping to improve on their poor home form, collecting just four draws from their last six contests at Brunton Park. While the Cumbrians have scored six goals in these games, a worringly large nine have been leaked at the other end.

Swindon's away form is none too clever either though, winning two of the last six, but losing their other four matches away from the County Ground. In these high scoring encounters the Robins have scored an excellent nine goals, but conceded an alarming eleven.

Carlisle are hovering perilously just above the relegation zone, in 20th, with just 45 points from their 43 matches contested to date. Swindon meanwhile also find themselves struggling down in 17th position in the League One table having picked up 48 points from their 43 matches played so far.
