History of the Stockport County v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle visit Stockport tomorrow needing to change their fortunes at Edgeley Park. The Cumbrians hoping to improve on a record which has seen them lose 22, draw seven and win only nine of the 38 games played in Stockport.

The last time the two sides met at Edgeley Park was in May 2006 when a 0-0 draw, in front of just over 10,000 spectators, was a good result for both teams. The point apiece, in then United boss Paul Simpson's last game as a player, meaning that on the final day of that League Two season Carlisle's status as champions was confirmed while Stockport made sure of avoiding relegation into non-league football.

The Hatters have given the Blues a few hammerings at Edgeley Park over the years, including a 7-1 win in 1929-30, and worst of all an 8-1 hammering in 1955-56. The best of Carlisle's nine victories at Edgeley Park was a 3-0 win in the old Fourth Division in 1963-64, the goalscorers being Ron Thompson, Hughie McIlmoyle and Johnny Evans, with all eight of United's other successes being by a narrow one-goal margin.

Recent respective form guides

Stockport County have collected two wins and three draws from their last six home matches. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at seven to five.

The away form of Carlisle is pretty dire, collecting just one solitary point from the last eighteen on the road. While the Cumbrians have scored five goals, a horrendous 15 have hit the back of the wrong net.

Stockport's 22 points from 14 games played sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in 11th position. Carlisle meanwhile find themselves struggling down in 18th position in the League One table having picked up 14 points from their 14 matches.
