Footymad preview History of the Stevenage v Carlisle United fixture

With Stevenage's first season in the Football League being the 2010/11 campaign, tomorrow will be Carlisle's only second game away to the Boro, the Blues last season losing 1-0 at the Lamex Stadium in mid-April when John Mousinho netted in the 76th minute as 3,438 fans looked on, the three points for the Boro being a big turning point in the play-off chase as far as both clubs were concerned.

Before that the sides did lock horns in the 2004/05 season in the Nationwide Conference, with Stevenage Borough as they were then winning 2-1 at what was formally known as Broadhall Way in early March 2005. Carlisle though looking to have all three points in the bag, in front of 2,217 spectators, thanks to Peter Murphy's 20th minute free-kick, only for Borough to nick a comeback victory with goals from George Boyd on 85 minutes and then Jon Brady as we ticked into stoppage time.

The Blues though gaining revenge at the Britannia Stadium in the play-off final when Murphy found the net again, this time in the 23rd minute with a header as 13,422 fans looked on, to seal a 1-0 win over the Borough and a return to the Football League for United at the first attempt.
