History of the Carlisle United v Peterborough United fixture

Carlisle welcome the Posh to Cumbria on Saturday afternoon hoping to improve on a record that has seen them win just four, draw eight and lose two of the 14 matches played at Brunton Park between the two sides over the years.

The last time the teams faced each other in Cumbria was in October 2008 in League One in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Carlisle going 1-0 up through Danny Graham on 20 minutes before Charlie Lee equalised after 34 minutes to leave the half-time scoreline at 1-1 in front of 6,074 spectators.

After the break the Blues quickly went 3-1 up with just 52 minutes on the clock thanks to Graham again five minutes in, and then Graham Kavanagh two minutes later. The Posh weren't to be beaten though and they pulled a goal back when Craig Mackail-Smith netted from the penalty spot on the hour mark, before the former Dagenham striker equalised four minutes into injury time.

Carlisle's best of their four wins at home to Peterborough was a 4-1 victory in the old Third Division back in 1978-79, Jim Lumby and David Kemp bagging a brace of goals apiece for the Blues as 5,471 fans looked on. That being the scoreline in Posh's best victory of their two at Brunton Park over the years, that coming in the old Third Division in 1962-63, the sole goal for the Blues coming from Bill Stark in front of 12,221 spectators on the opening day of the season.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have collected two wins, three draws and one defeat from their last six home matches. These games have seen the Cumbrians score just seven goals, though they have conceded only three.

Peterborough have a just about average recent record on the road, picking up two good wins, drawing one, but losing three from their last six games away from London Road. While the Posh have hit eight goals in those matches, a massive 15 have hit the back of the wrong net.

The Cumbrians are just outside the automatic promotion places, in third, having taken 16 points from their nine games contested to date. Meanwhile, Peterborough's identical total of 16 points from their nine matches played sees them sitting in fifth in the League One table with a goal difference of plus six compared to Carlisle's plus eight.

FootyMad's prediction ...

None of the two sides are showing much worthwhile winning form at present, so the Madmen can look no further than a single point for the Cumbrians.... Score draw
