History of the Oldham Athletic v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle face a trip to Oldham tomorrow afternoon, needing to turn round their fortunes at Boundary Park. The Blues hoping to better a record which has seen them lose 19 and win only seven of the 34 games played there.

Last season in League One the two sides fought a 0-0 draw at Boundary Park inbetween Christmas and New Year. The match, watched by 6,254 spectators, saw both sides have chances to win the game, although defences were generally on top throughout the 90 minutes.

Oldham's biggest win over the Blues at Boundary Park was a thumping 6-0 victory, with 9,325 fans in attendance, way back in the Division Three North Season of 1938-39. Meanwhile Carlisle's biggest margin of victory at the home of Latics has twice been by a two goal difference.

The first win being by a 2-0 scoreline in the post-war campaign of 1946-47, again in Division Three North, with the United goalscorers being Ivor Broadis and Jim Moir as 7,696 spectators looked on. The second victory being a 4-2 success in the same division in 1952-53, the scorers for the Blues that day, in front of a bumper 20,397 fans, being Jimmy Whitehouse with a brace, and Robert Harrison and Alan Ashman with single strikes.

Recent respective form guides

Oldham will be hoping to improve on their poor home form of late, collecting just four draws from their last six contests at Boundary Park, the Latics having not won at home in competitive action for just over seven months. While Oldham have scored just five goals in that recent run of six matches, a worringly large nine goals have been leaked at the other end.

Carlisle have had a relatively decent run of form on the road recently, the Cumbrians unbeaten in their last six games away from Brunton Park, although four of them have resulted in draws. The games have constituted a decent return of nine goals for the Cumbrians, and six against.

Oldham, in 21st, are currently stuck down in the relegation zone of League One with a return of just six points from their seven games played thus far. Meanwhile Carlisle's eight points earned from their seven games contested to date sees them lie just inside the top half of the table, in 12th place.
