History of the Oldham Athletic v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle face a trip to Oldham tomorrow evening, needing to turn round their fortunes at Boundary Park. The Blues hoping to better a record which has seen them lose 18 and win only seven of the 32 games played there.

The most recent encounter between the sides at Boundary Park was last season in late August 2006, when they drew 0-0 in a League One match. Carlisle having the best chance of victory when Oldham's goalkeeper David Knight was sent off for handball outside the area on 39 minutes, United though, in front of 6,080 spectators, were unable to break through a determined Latics rearguard and the match petered out into a goalless draw.

Oldham's biggest win over the Blues at Boundary Park was a thumping 6-0 victory, with 9,325 fans in attendance, way back in the Division Three North Season of 1938-39. Meanwhile Carlisle's biggest margin of victory at the home of Latics has twice been by a two goal difference.

The first win being by a 2-0 scoreline in the post-war campaign of 1946-47, again in Division Three North, with the United goalscorers being Ivor Broadis and Jim Moir as 7,696 spectators looked on. The second victory being a 4-2 success in the same division in 1952-53, the scorers for the Blues that day, in front of a bumper 20,397 fans, being Jimmy Whitehouse with a brace, and Robert Harrison and Alan Ashman with single strikes.

Recent respective form guides

Oldham will be hoping to improve on their poor home form that has seen them fail to win at Boundary Park in the league since the 29th of September, the Latics collecting just four draws from the last six home games. Oldham having conceded six goals in this period while only managing to convert a paltry three of their own chances.

The away form of Carlisle is equally dire though, with United not winning on the road themselves since the 27th of October. The Blues managing a meagre two draws from their last six matches away from Brunton Park, Carlisle scoring just four goals in that run of games while an extremely unhealthy 11 have hit the back of the wrong net.

Oldham see themselves just below the half-way mark in the League One table, in 14th place, showing a record of 34 points from their 26 games played so far, Carlisle meanwhile are just outside the automatic promotion places, in third, having taken 45 points from 26 games.
