History of the Notts. County v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle travel to the black and white side of Nottingham tomorrow, having come away with little in previous meetings. United having been defeated seven times out of ten, while winning just once and drawing twice in the other three games.

With that in mind matches between the teams have been a bit of a rarity over the years, with the last game at Meadow Lane coming in Carlisle's League Two title-winning season of 2005-06. The sides fighting out a dour goalless draw that late October afternoon in front of 5,347 spectators.

County's biggest win at home to the Cumbrians came in the old Division Two in the 1984-85 campaign, all the Magpies goals coming in the second-half in a 3-0 victory thanks to the late Justin Fashanu, Mark Goodwin from the penalty spot and David Watson as only 4,051 fans looked on.

Carlisle's solitary win at Meadow Lane meanwhile came by the same scoreline in the same division, this time though in 1973-74. The United goals, in front of a bumper 10,209 spectators over the festive period, coming via a Joe Laidlaw brace and an own goal from County's David McVay.
