History of the Carlisle United v Northampton Town fixture

Carlisle welcome the Cobblers to Cumbria tomorrow, just holding the advantage on previous meetings between the two sides at Brunton Park. United winning nine of the 17 games played while Northampton have been victorious six times.

Last season in League One, on Easter Monday in March 2008, Carlisle defeated the Cobblers 2-0 at home in front of a bumper 9,038 spectators thanks to second-half goals from Danny Livesey and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson. The win at the time being United's 14th successive league victory at Brunton Park before that run came to an end at the hands of Nottingham Forest eight days later.

Over the years United's biggest win at home to the Cobblers was a 4-1 victory in the 1990-91 season in the old Division Four. Carlisle's goalscorers that day, as just 2,873 fans looked on, being Paul Proudlock, late great Keith Walwyn, Eric Gates and Simon Jeffels. Northampton, meanwhile, despite winning six times at Brunton Park, have never been victorious by any more than a 2-0 scoreline.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle need to improve on their dreadful recent home record of just three draws from their previous six matches at Brunton Park. While the Cumbrians have scored six goals, a worringly large ten have been leaked at the other end.

Northampton's away form is none too clever either though, accumulating just one victory and one draw from their last six games played on the road. While the Cobblers have netted only four goals, seven have hit the back of the wrong net.

Carlisle are hovering perilously just above the relegation zone, in 19th, with 42 points gained from 39 matches played. Northampton meanwhile are marginally better off if they can get something out of their two games in hand, the Cobblers one place lower in the League One table with 41 points from their 37 matches contested to date.

FootyMad's prediction ...

It's been a distinctly poor show from Carlisle at home in recent games, and, though the Footymad panel cannot see a run starting here, we do think the Cumbrians will at least gain a draw. No-score draw
