History of the Northampton Town v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle face a trip to Northampton tomorrow, hoping to improve on a record of ten draws in seventeen matches on the road against their opponents.

Last season in League One the two sides fought out a 2-2 draw at Sixfields in early December 2007. Marc Bridge-Wilkinson putting Carlisle 1-0 up on 26 minutes before Jason Crowe equalised for the Cobblers just two minutes later. Joe Garner then making it 2-1 to United on 63 minutes, in front of 4,908 spectators, before the Blues lost the lead for the second and final time when Bradley Johnson levelled for Northampton in injury time.

United have only ever won once at Northampton over the years, that sole success coming in the 2005-06 League Two title winning season as the Cumbrians ran out cosy 3-0 winners on a Friday evening in March 2006. The Blues goals that night coming from Karl Hawley, Michael Bridges and Danny Livesey as 7,045 fans looked on. Amazingly Northampton have never beaten United by more than two goals at home, Town winning three of their six victories against the Blues by a scoreline of two goals to nil.

Recent respective form guides

Northampton have managed to pick up just two wins from their last six home games, losing three and drawing the other one. Those high scoring matches have seen the Cobblers score nine goals and concede a hefty ten.

The away form of Carlisle is pretty dire, accumulating just one victory and one draw from their last six matches played away from Brunton Park. The Cumbrians have conceded a gruesome 11 goals in these games while only netting three in reply.

Northampton see themselves just below half-way in the League One table, in 15th, showing a record of 25 points from their 20 games played so far. Carlisle meanwhile are two places lower down having picked up 21 points from their 20 matches contested to date.
