History of the Carlisle United v Northampton Town fixture

Carlisle welcome the Cobblers to Cumbria tomorrow, just holding the advantage on previous meetings between the two sides at Brunton Park. United winning eight of the 16 games played while Northampton have been victorious six times.

Last season in League One, in early September 2006, the teams fought out a 1-1 draw in Carlisle. Scott McGleish scoring for the visitors in the 47th minute, in front of 7,602 spectators, before Karl Hawley levelled matters for the Blues just nine minutes later.

Over the years United's biggest win at home to the Cobblers was a 4-1 victory in the 1990-91 season in the old Division Four. Carlisle's goalscorers that day, as just 2,873 fans looked on, being Paul Proudlock, late great Keith Walwyn, Eric Gates and Simon Jeffels. Northampton, meanwhile, despite winning six times at Brunton Park, have never been victorious by any more than a 2-0 scoreline.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle could not have a more impressive recent home form at present, having won each of the last six games at Brunton Park, and 13 on the bounce at home in the league. During the six most recent games on Cumbrian soil the Blues have scored ten goals and conceded just three.

The Cobblers have had a decent run of form away from home recently though, with three victories and just one loss from their last six games on the road. Only six goals have scored in these games, though to be fair just a measly three have been let in at the wrong end.

Carlisle are currently second in the League One table, and have accumulated 71 points from the 37 games they have played so far. Meanwhile Northampton's 54 points from 39 games contested sees them lie just inside the top half of the table, in 12th place.
